Local health authority offers tips on stopping the spread of COVID-19

Dr. James Vretis, local health authority, offers advice on helping stop the spread of COVID-19.

TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — The City of San Angelo released a video Friday from local health authority, Dr. James Vretis on how citizens can help stop the spread of COVID-19 within their communities.

Here is the full statement:

"Although things throughout the state have reopened and life seems to be going back to the way things used to be, we need to remember that this disease is still prevalent in our community. We have seen cases increase in the recent days and weeks, and this is a signal to us that this disease is still here.

I urge everyone to be vigilant in your actions. The decisions you make as an individual impact the entire community. When this disease first appeared here, San Angelo came together as a community to limit the spread of COVID-19. Now we need that same action from you again.

Please maintain social distancing from others, including friends and family, practice good hand hygiene, wear masks when you are out in public, and please do not gather in groups larger than 10 if they are not members of your household. And finally, per the governor's order, if you engage in newly reopened activities, please quarantine yourself for 14 days before spending time with folks over 65.

In order for San Angelo to get back to some form of normalcy, we need everyone to step up. This will take an effort from everyone. Thank you for doing your part to make San Angelo a safer, healthier place.
