SAN ANGELO, Texas — Shannon Clinic will host several drive-thru flu shot clinics in September.

The clinics will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19; 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 21-25; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26. All clinics will be held in the Foster Field parking lot at the corner of South Jackson Street and University Avenue.

According to a Shannon Medical Center press release, the clinics are open to patients of all ages and families are encouraged to arrive together.

The clinic will accept and file insurance, or patients can pay the $35 fee per vaccine.

Appointments are not required, but patients are asked to wear a mask and bring their insurance cards. A high dose vaccine will be available upon request.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people to get the flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available, the release said. Getting the vaccine before December is best as it ensures the protective antibodies are in place before flu activity is at its highest. The flu shot is an activated vaccine that contains the killed virus and is given with a needle. Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the bodies and they provide protection again the influenza virus infection.

The flu shot is approved for anyone six months or older, as well as for healthy individuals and those with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.
