ABILENE, TX — "The lake is probably about 3ft to 4ft over the spillway" County Commissioner Kenny Thompson.
Heavy rain is still causing devastation across Haskell County and that's something Stamford residents know all too well.
"Some of them the new timers aren’t sure what to think about it ..the old-timers are like me all you can do is clean it up and redo it"
This isn't the first time.
In 1978 the county received more than 25 inches of rain in a 24-hour period.
It happened again in 2005.
Vance Proctor owner of the "Backyard" which is located directly on Lake Stamford Marina said that's the cost of living in a paradise.
"It's not a question of if it will happen its when it will happen," said Proctor.
Proctor and his wife have been the proud owners of the backyard since 2008. And as their business takes in water...they stay optimistic.
"When you live by water you're going to get a flood," says Proctor.
Proctor took flood precautions when he was building the backyard. There is cinder blocks as well as a pumping system that is helping flush some of the water out they have even kept the business going .. sorta.
"We did sell the first 2 days ..we would take the bucket up and hand it down by a rope to them so they could go fish in the river," says Proctor.
He estimates damages to his bait stand to be around 15k to 20k but is thankful for flood insurance and says it could be worse.
"Next is the cleanup part.. Which is the nasty part" says Proctor.
