ABILENE, TX --- Despite yesterday's rainfall, water levels are still lower than normal. The limited water is affecting everyone including landscapers.

Kxva's Jerry Huerta sat down with a local landscaping company to see how they've adjusted to the city's water restrictions.

A sprinkler system is a landscaper's best friend. It keeps the plants and grass green. The city of Abilene has water restrictions in place that make these systems harder to use.

"It's caused a few challenges every 14 days puts a limit on watering existing yards." says Lorne Sloan, who is the irrigation manager at Extreme Exteriors. "So we had challenges reprogramming controllers."

Lorne Sloan is an irrigation manager at extreme exteriors.

"Filling up the pools hasn't been an issue in Abilene." says Sloan. "As of now, you can fill up pools. Some of the other areas outside of Abilene is more restrictive."

Sloan says it hasn't been a problem because it's usually only a one time fill. He says customers are now not getting grass installed and instead getting strictly flower beds. Or artificial turf.

"Newer yards may go with some drip in the sodded areas as well." says Sloan. "We've done some of that with some success. That's one way to save some water."

If the conditions get worse, Sloan says they can manage. But he is hoping they can get more rainfall soon.
