TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — A 10-year-old child was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning on State Hwy 153, around 30 miles south of Sweetwater.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an SUV towing a trailer, was being driven north on SH 153 by Antonio Munoz of San Antonio. At the same time, a pickup truck, driven by Brady Bill Lewis, 42, of Lubbock, was traveling south on SH 153.
DPS says Munoz drifted off the north side of the road and into the barrow ditch. He overcorrected, steering left back toward the roadway traveling into the southbound lane in a side skid.
Lewis' pickup truck was just coming over a hill on the road as Munoz was in the southbound lane and collided with the SUV.
The 10-year-old child, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the SUV in the collision. The child was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Earl Donnel.
Munoz was taken to Hendrick Medical Center - North with non-incapacitating injuries. A 37-year-old passenger , Nakud Torres, of San Antonio, was also taken to Hendrick-North with incapacitating injuries. She was listed in stable condition.
A 17-year-old and a 9-year-old were taken to Cook Children's Hospital for treatment. The DPS report says neither of the two were wearing seatbelts in the crash.
Lewis and his passengers, Jessica Ann Davis, 39, of Lubbock, and three children, ages 8, 5 and 14, were taken to Hendrick-North with incapacitating injuries. They were all listed in stable condition at the time of the DPS report.
