16-year-old passenger killed in Brown County SUV rollover

BROWN COUNTY, Texas — A 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in an SUV died after a rollover crash Thursday night in Brown County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's preliminary crash report, the crash happened at 8:15 p.m. Thursday on County Road 225, about five miles south of Brownwood in Brown County.

The SUV, driven by another 16-year-old girl, was traveling south on CR 225. DPS says the driver was "operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed and unsafe for the roadway conditions." 

She lost control of the SUV, then went into a side skid off the east side of the roadway. DPS says the SUV overturned multiple times before coming to a stop on its wheels.

One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mitchell Jacobson.

The driver was taken by private vehicle to a nearby hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Another passenger, a 17-year-old girl, was taken by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center - Brownwood with non-incapacitating injuries.
