SAN ANGELO, Texas — A West Texas 9-year-old caught a whopper of a catfish in a local body of water.
The Inland Fisheries - San Angelo District of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department posted a photo on social media of a catch submission from Jaxon Yoakum, 9.
Yoakum submitted the catch for the pending junior waterbody record blue catfish for Twin Buttes Reservoir. His blue catfish weighed 51.5 lbs. and was 46 inches long.
The fisheries said Yoakum's catch smashed the previous Twin Buttes junior record of 8.95 lbs. set back in 2021, and just barely missed the overall Twin Buttes blue catfish record of 52.5 lbs. set back in 2002.
