ABILENE, Texas — Two Abilene Christian University political science students have been named At-Large Sumners Scholars and will each receive a $30,000 scholarship toward their junior and senior years.
Thomas Sanderson of El Paso and J.D. Schlageter of New Braunfels were named to the upcoming two-year At-Large Sumners Scholars.
The award is for students who demonstrate academic excellence, are dedicated to civic education and engagement and possess a capacity for leadership, according to an ACU press release.
To be eligible, students must be rising juniors from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico or Oklahoma and attending a college or university in Texas or Oklahoma.
This year, 17 $30,000 scholarships were awarded to candidates from:
● Abilene Christian University (2)
● Austin College
● Baylor University (2)
● Dallas Baptist University (3)
● Southwestern University (3)
● St. Edward’s University
● St. Mary’s University
● Texas Christian University
● The University of Central Oklahoma
● The University of Dallas (2)
Scholars will participate in numerous opportunities for personal development in civic education and engagement over the next two years, in addition to the scholarships they were awarded.
