ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Fire Department spent the lunch hour fighting two fires Monday.
According to an AFD release, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Monday, the AFD responded to a commercial structure fire in the 2600 block of Buffalo Gap Road. Crews found smoke coming from the back of the structure.
These crews made a swift attack on the fire and had it out within minutes. Crews overhauled the structure, checked for extension and cleared the remainder of the smoke out of the structure. All of the occupants self-evacuated and there were no injuries reported at the scene.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical and the value of the damage is estimated to be $10,000, the release said.
Approximately 20 minutes later, at 12:50 p.m., crews responded to the 300 block of Miss Ellie in reference to a residential structure fire. Crews saw smoke coming from the rear of the home. An investigation showed a fire had started on the back porch and was burning up into the exterior of the home and into the attic space.
A quick attack was made containing the fire to the exterior of the house. The fire was the result of a heating lamp and the fire was ruled accidental in nature. The estimated loss is determined to be $15,000.
There were three people home at the time of the incident, they were able to exit the structure and no injuries were reported.
