The Abilene Independent School District issued a statement Monday on its Facebook page to address a reported online threat to Cooper High School.

In the post, the district stated they learned of the post late Sunday evening. The post warned of a threat to Cooper High School. The district said it immediately alerted the Abilene Police Department of the situation and officers launched an investigation.

On Monday, additional security was added to the campus to "ensure the safety of students and staff."

The statement, a message from CHS Principal Lyndsey Williamson, continued, "At this point we have found no credible evidence to substantiate the threat. The AISD takes each of these situations very seriously and the APD and school district are investigating this one just as they would any other threat to a campus. We take the safety and security of students and staff at each of our campuses very seriously and want you to be assured that at no time was any of them in danger because of this unsubstantiated threat."

The district said it will continue to diligently work with APD to respond to any future threats to AISD students or staff, and deal with anyone who makes such threats in accordance with applicable laws.
