ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Police took a 35-year-old Abilene man into custody after a five-hour-long standoff on the city's north side Tuesday.
According to the APD, dispatch received a call of an armed subject who had reportedly fired off at least one round at a home in the 1300 block of Green Street in north Abilene at 12:28 p.m. Patrol officers arrived on the scene and tried to make contact with the man, who had retreated inside a home and refused to respond to police.
Crisis negotiators, SWAT and the bomb truck responded to help negotiate with the man to come out and speak with officers. Police secured a warrant and used tear gas and finally, the bomb truck equipment to breach and make entry into the home.
Juan Andres Rodriguez, 35, was arrested at 5:41 p.m. He faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon with other charges pending the investigation.
The department said it thanked homeowners in the area for their cooperation with this incident and are thankful that no injuries were sustained in taking Rodriguez into custody.
