MUNDAY, Texas — A 35-year-old Abilene man confessed to the murder of a person who has been missing for almost a decade, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday.
Michael Macias was arrested Jan. 11 by Texas Rangers. After confessing, Macias told authorities where the person's remains had been concealed for eight years. Texas Rangers corroborated the confession with physical and circumstantial evidence.
Rangers started working with the Knox County Sheriff's Office in the missing person case in 2021. The investigation led to a location in Munday, where in 2023, the Rangers and the Munday Police Department found human skeletal remains.
A DNA report on the remains is pending, however, the Rangers have been in contact with the missing person's family. DPS did not release the name of the missing person.
Macias was booked into the Taylor County Jail on a murder charge. His bond has been set at $300,000.
