JONES COUNTY, Texas — An Abilene man was killed Monday evening when the pickup truck he was driving collided with an 18-wheeler in Jones County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash happened at 6:08 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Hwy 92 and FM 1661, 1.04 miles north of Hawley.

Kevin Eugene Sallas, 49, of Abilene, was driving the pickup truck south on FM 1661, approaching the SH 92 intersection that's controlled by stop signs for north and south traffic.

An 18-wheeler, driven by Richard Kencade Jones, 38, of Tallassee, Alabama, was traveling west on SH 92, approaching the intersection.

DPS says Sallas failed to yield the right of way to Jones and the two vehicles collided.

Sallas was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guernsey. Jones was injured and listed in stable condition at the time of the DPS release.
