Abilene PD investigating fatal crash at 15th and Grape intersection

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating a fatal crash at the intersection of North 15th and Grape streets early Thursday.

According to a release from the APD, an SUV traveling northbound with a single occupant on Grape, when it collided with the side of a car, with two occupants, traveling westbound on North 15.

The car was crossing Grape when it was hit on the driver's side and came to rest in the front yard of a nearby home. The car's driver, Bobby Herrera, 36, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sparky Dean. The passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the release said.

The SUV driver did not receive life-threatening injuries.

The cause of this crash is under investigation and no citations have been issued, the APD said.
