ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Police Department officers responded to a large fight between several students at the Abilene High School campus Thursday.
Campus staff and APD officers responded immediately to the situation that happened during lunch, the Abilene Independent School District said.
The Abilene Police Department said in an email, "Abilene Police School Resource Officers and School Administrators at Abilene High had to step in to help stop a large fight that occurred today, Thursday, September 1, at one of the lunch periods at Abilene High School. Adults quickly stepped in before the fight could grow in size and took control of the situation. An added number of officers will remain at the school throughout the rest of the day to assist with the safety of the students."
No Abilene High students or staff members are in danger, and the AISD said it is proceeding with its normal school day.
The students involved in the situation have been removed from campus.
Out of an abundance of caution, the AISD Safety Team and the APD will remain on campus for the remainder of the day.
We've reached out to the Abilene Police Department for comment.
