ABILENE, Texas — A commercial building that was modified with attached residential units is a total loss after a fire Wednesday morning.
According to an Abilene Fire Department press release, crews responded to a call of a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of South 14th Street at approximately 6:24 a.m. Wednesday.
Arriving crews found the structure fully involved and a second alarm was quickly called because of the size of the structure and the amount of visible fire, the release said.
The AFD said the structure was a commercial building which had been modified with attached residential units. The occupants of the unit where the fire is presumed to have started were not at home at the time of the fire.
A second unit had one resident home at the time and he was able to evacuate without injury.
The AFD said the cause of the fire remains under investigation and the building is a total loss with an estimated value of is $80,000.
The American Red Cross was notified and will be assisting the people who were displaced.
