29-year old Abilene man dead after gunshot injury

ABILENE, Texas — A 29-year old Abilene man was shot and later died from injuries Oct. 14. 

According to the Abilene Police Department, victim Mackenzie Chasting was shot sometime before 7:03 a.m. Oct. 14 at the 2400 block of Buffalo Gap Road. 

APD arrived to an apartment building to find Chasting on the floor. He was later pronounced dead by a Justice of the Peace. 

Following this incident, 39-year old Matthew Haynes was taken to Taylor County Jail on a count of first-degree felony murder. 

Haynes and Chasting had a connection to one another, although specific details have not yet been released. 

This is an ongoing investigation. We will provide more information as it become available.
