ABILENE, Texas —

A 58-year-old Abilene man died from injuries he received when the SUV he was driving went off the road, rolled over several times before ejecting him, then caught fire.

The single-vehicle crash happened just before noon Tuesday in the 9800 block of West Lake Road.

Passing motorists stopped to help him, but could not pull him away from the wreckage. The vehicle had caught fire, severely injuring him. The driver, Ebony Montrain Kellum, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Kellum was the only occupant in the vehicle. The cause of the crash and the cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Abilene Police Department.

APD said Kellum is not believed to have been wearing his seat belt.
