ABILENE, Texas —

A 39-year-old Abilene man is dead after refusing to drop weapons and advancing towards an Abilene Police officer Thursday evening.

At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, APD responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home in the 3800 block of North 9th Street in north Abilene.

The caller told dispatch their older son, Cris Steenblock, 39, was causing a disturbance in their family home, destroying property and getting physical with his parents.

As an APD officer approached, Steenblock advanced towards the officer with weapons in both hands in the street. Steenblock was given multiple commands to drop the weapons, but did not comply and continued to advance towards the officer, who then fired his service weapon, hitting Steenblock.

Steenblock was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace.

No officers were injured and no other injuries were reported in the incident.

In accordance with APD policy, one officer will be put on administrative leave. The incident is being investigated concurrently with the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers.
