ABILENE, Texas —

The Abilene Police Department and the Abilene Independent School District launched an investigation after both entities were made aware of a social media post claiming harm at three named schools with names similar to three schools in the Abilene area - Bonham, Travis and Horace Mann schools.

APD detectives, with the assistance of AISD, investigated and determined the threats made were to schools in the Amarillo school district. Amarillo Police Department detectives confirmed this post originated in Amarillo by a student within their district and have contacted both the student and the parents.

No credible threat was made to any schools in the Abilene ISD. APD and AISD worked together to identify any possible threats to Abilene schools, students and faculty and found none associated with this threat.

The department encourages everyone to speak up regarding any credible threats made against schools, faculty or students.
