Abilene Zoo has new baby giraffe | Now you can help name her

The public can vote from a choice of three names on the zoo's Facebook page, where the name with the most votes will be announced Aug. 2.

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Zoo has a new resident - a baby giraffe born Saturday, July 20, and you can help the zoo name her.

She was born during the zoo’s birthday celebration, Zippity Zoo Day at 6 feet, 6 inches tall, making her the tallest calf born at the Abilene Zoo.

The new calf's name will follow the tradition of Swahili giraffe names and zoo is inviting the public to help it name her.

The three options to choose from are:

Zahara (meaning flower)

Uzuri (meaning beauty)

Udadisi (meaning curiosity)

People can vote for their favorite name on Abilene Zoo’s Facebook page where the name with the most votes will be announced Friday, Aug. 2.
