ABILENE, Texas — After 13 years in varying roles, current Austin Elementary assistant principal Lacy Bruce has been recently announced as the school's newest principal.
Bruce will be taking over for Clay Johnson, who was recently offered a new position as district fine arts executive director.
The official announcement was made Nov. 17 by Abilene Independent School District superintendent Dr. David Young.
"Lacy is well prepared to step into the principalship at Austin Elementary School,” said Young. “She has a passion for building positive relationships with students, families, and staff, as well as a track record of helping our kids grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I know the Austin community will benefit tremendously from her continued leadership," Young said.
Bruce received her bachelor's degree in education from Hardin-Simmons University, followed by a master's degree in education from Sul Ross University.
From there, she taught second, third and fourth grade students at Johnston Elementary before moving into her current position as assistant principal.
Austin Elementary is known for its instruction in special education, grade level leadership and continued efforts on the committees of District of Innovation, Safe and Civil Schools, Campus Foundations, Gifted and Talented and emergency management.
Bruce plans to start her new role in January 2024.
