ABILENE, Texas — The annual Mission Thanksgiving benefiting Love and Care Ministries happened Friday and drew a large number of volunteers and donations.

Love and Care Ministries is a nonprofit organization that help homeless and others in Abilene and the surrounding areas, who are in need.

Abilene residents were able to drive up to the event and stay in their vehicles while volunteers unloaded donations. From canned goods and clothing to hygiene products and blankets, the community rallied together to provide essential items. Once collected, the donations were sorted and loaded into trucks, ready to be transported to Love and Care Ministries.

The event coordinator, Allison Alvarez said "This started with just a couple of people in a room. We filled 13 trucks last year raising $200,000. So, it has grown.”

Thanks to the collective efforts the event not only provided needed resources for Love and Care Ministries but also served as a reminder of the tight-knit community spirit in Abilene.
