ABILENE, Texas — Dogs in Abilene will once again have Camp Barkeley as its reopens at its new location.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned to celebrate at 2 p.m. Nov. 26 at 610 ES 11th St.

Funding raised by Abilene citizens with help from the City of Abilene opened a dog park in 2010 in Grover Nelson Park. In March 2024, Camp Barkeley was temporarily closed because of construction of a new athletic complex in the park.

The new location for Camp Barkeley was constructed at Cal Young Park. It features two dog play areas - one for small dogs (30 pounds and less) and one for large dogs (more than 30 pounds). Click here for dog park guidelines.
