ABILENE, Texas — An Abilene Independent School District administrator has been selected as the sole finalist for the superintendent role at Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District.

AISD says Dr. Christopher Bailey has served district students and families for four years, most recently as executive director of student supports and previously as Clack Middle School principal.

“We are excited to name Dr. Bailey as our lone finalist,” Goldthwaite CISD Board President Keri Roberts said. “We can’t wait to welcome him to our Goldthwaite family, and we look forward to all the great things to come under his leadership!”

“Dr. Bailey has been a tremendous asset for Abilene ISD students, teachers, and staff,” Dr. David Young, AISD Superintendent Emeritus, said. “I am grateful for his commitment to ensuring that all AISD learners have opportunities to be equipped for brighter futures. While his presence in our district will be sorely missed, I look forward to his continued success while leading Goldthwaite CISD into the future.”

Bailey has been a Texas public school educator for 19 years. He began his career at Katy ISD in 2005, as the James E. Taylor High School director of bands and later as Stockdick Junior High School's assistant principal for student supports before joining Abilene ISD.

He chaired the Katy ISD Safe and Civil Schools Foundations Team and helped lead strategic planning teams for both Katy and Abilene ISDs. In his role as AISD executive director, Bailey has worked to develop structures to promote positive behaviors and remove barriers to learning for students.

“I am humbled to be named lone finalist for superintendent in Goldthwaite CISD,” Bailey said. “Our family looks forward to immersing ourselves in the Goldthwaite community. I cannot wait to learn about the great traditions of Eagle Nation and provide leadership to the GCISD community alongside a staff already doing great things for kids.”

Bailey holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Baylor University and completed his master’s program at Baylor and his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University. He was named Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals in 2022.
