ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Fire Department said an electrical malfunction caused a fire Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block of South 2nd Street.
Firefighters responded to a residential fire call at around 12:55 p.m. Dec. 27. Crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the single-story, single-family residence, made a quick attack and brought the fire under control.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, but a dog was found dead inside.
Damages are estimated to be $15,000, the AFD said. An investigation determined the fire was accidental in nature because of the electrical malfunction.
