Two drivers arrested in Abilene fatal hit-and-run, police looking for third driver for questioning

A 59-year-old man was in his wheelchair at a Hwy 351 intersection when two vehicles hit him, then drove away without stopping. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

ABILENE, Texas —

Two men have been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run Thursday morning in Abilene.

Abilene Police say 59-year-old Donan Myron Justice was in his wheelchair in the intersection of Highway 351 and the entrance to the Walmart SuperCenter when a vehicle traveling east hit him. The driver left the scene.

A second vehicle also hit Justice and continued without stopping.

Witnesses stopped and tried to help Justice. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe a short time later.

Robby Wayne Hale, 37, of Clyde was arrested at a Clyde home in connection to the incident. He was booked into the Taylor County Jail and charged with second-degree felony accident involving death.

A second driver, John Daniel Gonzales, 58, of Abilene, was also arrested and charged with second-degree felony accident involving death.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and traffic investigators are looking for the driver of a third vehicle for questioning.
