Fifth annual Winter Light Festival hosted by the United Way of Abilene now underway

The Winter Light Fest kicked off Nov. 24 and is held every weekend through Dec. 30.

ABILENE, Texas — The fifth annual Winter Light Festival is now underway in Abilene.

The event on East North 10th Street is organized by the United Way of Abilene in partnership with Lone Star Electric and is a way to raise funds for the 23 nonprofit agencies served by the United Way.

It brings together residents and visitors to view the nearly two million lights for the holiday season and transforms the 3/4-mile paved walking trail into a ‘winter wonderland.’

“It has become something that became heart work for us. We could raise money all sorts of ways through dinners, regular non-profit fundraising but this has become a staple in Abilene and really the surrounding communities. We have people come from all over and we are so proud of it,” United Way of Abilene Chief Development Office, Katie Deal, said.

Groups of families, friends and individuals of all ages came together to experience the magic of the season and were treated to live music performances, food trucks and a scavenger hunt activity for children.

The festival will be open every weekend through Dec. 30. For more information, visit unitedwayabilene.org/winterlightfest.
