ABILENE, Texas —

The 35th annual Friends of the Library Book Sale for Abilene is set for June 20-23 at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. 6th St.

There will be a large selection of books, audiobooks, records, DVDs and more with proceeds benefiting the Abilene Public Library. This sale is a highly-anticipated event in the community, the City of Abilene said in a news release, where thousands come out to build their personal libraries without breaking the bank.

This year's sale will kick off at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 20, with a preview sale open to current members of the Friends of the Library until 8 p.m. Memberships will be sold at the door and run as low as $20.

The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 21 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and will be open to the general public at no charge.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, June 23, it starts wrapping up with the Bag-O-Books Sale - $6 will get you a bag to take home whatever you can fit into it.

Items sell for no more than $2, with the exception of an antiques & uniques section of collectible items. Cash, check and debit/credit cards will be accepted for purchases.

This year, the Friends of the Library is going green and asks visitors to bring their own bags, totes and carts to take purchases home. This will help to reduce use of plastic bags. Totes will be available at the book sale for $1 each.

Additionally, this year the organization has added a Book Sale Map for guests to be able to get an early look at where to find items at the sale based on subject and genre.

Friends of the Library will begin to accept donations again July 8 on the regular donation schedule of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
