TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — A 55-year-old driver died after his car was involved in a head-on collision near Abilene Thursday.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened about 5:21 p.m. Thursday at FM 707 and County Road 314, about 2.7 miles southwest of Abilene.

Kenneth Wilkey Oneal, 79, of Abilene, was driving north on FM 707, trying to turn west on to CR 314. A passenger car, driven by Richard Varin Walker, 55, of Abilene, was traveling south on FM 707, through the intersection of CR 314.

The crash report says Oneal failed to yield the right of way, turning left and into Walker's car head-on.

Walker was taken to Hendrick Medical Center South, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, a 40-year-old Abilene woman, was also taken to Hendrick South for treatment of serious incapacitating injuries.

Oneal was not injured in the crash, according to DPS.
