ABILENE, Texas — Three Holland Medical High School students are about to be a part of the inaugural dual credit pilot class of the Cisco College Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program, the Abilene Independent School District announced Wednesday.
Juniors Cedric Brooks, Rachel Sprencel and Vivianna Villarreal qualified for the program by completing required prerequisite dual credit courses, passing the Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) nursing test and completing the application and interview process for the Cisco College program.
To get their license, the three students have to complete coursework at Cisco and participate in clinicals at a Hendrick Health location.
“Cedric, Rachel and Vivianna have been dedicated to the goal to become LVNs before graduating from high school and they have worked diligently this year in all steps of the process to achieve that goal,” Holland Medical High School Dean, Kathy Walker, said. “The staff and students at Holland are so very proud of their achievement, and we know that this is just the beginning to their success in the healthcare industry.”
The program is a result of an effort by several community healthcare leaders to provide advanced opportunities for aspiring healthcare workers in Abilene and the Big Country. Contributing partners include Cisco College, Hendrick Health and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Abilene.
Holland Medical High School is a medical careers magnet school operated by Abilene ISD on the Hardin-Simmons University campus. Holland students are enrolled at one of AISD’s degree-granting high schools - Abilene High School, ATEMS or Cooper High School.
