ABILENE, Texas — The annual Light Up a Life fundraising campaign to continue to provide care to patients who need financial assistance has kicked off in the Big Country, Hendrick Hospice Care said.
Hendrick Hospice Care is a nonprofit serving more than 1,000 patients and their families within a 65-mile radius of Abilene each year. It also provided more than $300,000 in financial assistance in 2023.
End-of-life care is provided at the Hendrick Hospice Care Center and in homes, nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and hospitals. After the death of a loved one, bereavement services are available for adults, families and children. The hospice center is also a participant in the We Honor Veterans program to meet the unique hospice needs of those who served in the military.
“Providing care to patients during their last months to days of living includes emotional and spiritual support, both to them and their families,” Hendrick Hospice Care Director/Administrator, Karen Tucek, said. “A gift to Light Up a Light is an investment in compassion that enables us to serve all.”
Two Christmas trees will be lit this week to symbolize the campaign. A 20-foot Christmas tree will be installed in the middle of the Mall of Abilene Thursday. Beginning Friday, a 50-foot Christmas tree will be on top of Hendrick Medical Center in north Abilene.
A financial gift can be made to honor someone on a brick ($250), paver ($500) or engraved leaf on a wall display ($500) at the hospice center. Become a Hospice Star by pledging $20 per month for one year. A donation of $20 in memory or honor of someone will be written on a paper bulb on the Mall of Abilene's Christmas tree or the Roscoe Bank in Sweetwater.
Donations can be made through hendrickhospice.org. Every dollar contributed to the campaign goes toward patient care. For information, call Hendrick Hospice Care at 325-670-2273.
