ABILENE, Texas — A lightning strike caused an estimated $150,000 in damages to a home in Abilene's Fairway Oaks area Sunday afternoon.
Abilene Fire Department crews were dispatched to the area at around 4:31 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. The homeowner reported lightning possibly struck the home.
AFD crews entered the home and could see a light haze of smoke inside. Attic access was gained and a hose line was deployed into the house. Lots of trapped smoke inside the attic had to be removed for the crews to find the source of the smoke and fire.
Lightning had struck the home, the AFD said. A small amount of water was applied to the area of origin.
Fire crews kept the fire from spreading. Damages are estimated to be $150,000.
