ABILENE, Texas — A motorcycle rider died from injuries he received after colliding with an SUV, south of the Mall of Abilene.

The crash happened Sunday afternoon in the 4400 block of Buffalo Gap Road. Abilene Police say a 2013 Ford Edge, driven by a 71-year-old woman, was traveling north on Buffalo Gap Road and attempted to turn left into a private drive on the west side of the roadway.

A 2007 Harley Davidson Softail, being driven by Joshuia Harness, 37, was traveling south on Buffalo Gap Road and collided with the SUV. Harness sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in critical condition.

He was later care-flighted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he died early Monday, Nov. 11.

APD's Traffic Division is conducting further investigation into the collision and results are pending. Intoxication does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

Harness was the third motorcyclist killed in 2024 on Abilene roads. There have been 12 fatal motor vehicle collisions.

APD reminds motorcyclists to wear helmets, bright reflective and protective clothing, utilize high-beam head lamps in daytime hours and slow down. Drivers should always be mindful and alert to motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
