ABILENE, Texas — Ginger Held will be the next dean of Holland Medical High School, the Abilene ISD announced Friday.

Held will replace Kathy Walker, who plans to retire at the end of the school year after 30 years of service to AISD students.

She has more than 30 years of experience in education and is currently the Cooper High School secondary lead counselor. Held began her teaching career in Abilene ISD in 1993 as a middle school physical education teacher before spending more than a decade as a science and P.E. teacher in Clyde ISD. She joined CHS in 2011 as a school counselor, providing support to students in academic planning, college and career readiness and more.

“It is my honor and privilege to serve as the new Dean of Holland Medical High School,” Held said in an AISD release. “My goal is to encourage students to strive for excellence in their educational endeavors and future careers. I also look forward to working with the team of passionate, student-centered educators at Holland.”

Held holds a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on school counseling from Sul Ross State University and a bachelor’s degree from McMurry University.

Holland Medical High School is a partnership between Hardin-Simmons University and the Abilene Independent School District and is located on the HSU campus in north Abilene.
