New Oaxacan Gold exhibit featured at Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene

A grand closing celebration for the exhibit is planned for Sept. 14 and includes "The Taste of Oaxaca" culinary experience and a mescal tasting.

ABILENE, Texas — The Oaxacan Gold exhibitcurated by National Geographic contributing photographer, Greg Davis, is being featured at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene.

The exhibit is free for viewing until 6 p.m. Sept. 14, which is the grand closing evening celebration. The grand closing is a multimedia art and cultural experience featuring the photography of Greg Davis and the Folk Art of Grand Master Folk Artists - Jacobo and Maria Angeles (alebrijes), Carlomagno Pedro Martinez (black clay), Alejandro Vera (masks), Jose and Teresita Garcia Antonio (ceramics), Magdalena Pedro Martínez (black clay) and the 90-year-old loom from the Mendoza family (textiles).

Ticketed night participants will also experience “The Taste of Oaxaca'' a culinary art experience complimented by “The Spirit of Oaxaca” mescal tastings.

After the ticketed portion of the evening, a public celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. with a dance performance by Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Muñoz and authentic Oaxacan food from El Alebrije food truck in front of Minter Park.
