ABILENE, Texas —

Two separate incidents of suspicious activity reported at school bus stop locations are being actively investigated by Abilene Police Department.

The APD in collaboration with the Abilene Independent School District urges parents to exercise heightened vigilance at bus stop locations before and after school daily.

The incidents, reported on different dates, involved observations of suspicious vehicles and people potentially approaching students. Both occurrences were reported in the general vicinity of South 22nd Street, near the intersections of Vine and Jeanette streets.

As a precaution, the APD says parents are strongly advised to remain with their children at bus stops until the school bus arrives and students are safely aboard.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing. At this time, no suspects or vehicles have been identified. Anyone with information related to these cases is encouraged to contact the assigned detective at 325-676-6615 - leave a message if there is not an immediate response.

A statement from AISD was included in the APD media release: "As soon as Abilene ISD was notified of suspicious activity occurring near one of our bus stops, we immediately notified the Abilene Police Department. Our bus drivers and transportation personnel have been instructed to operate with extra vigilance and report any suspicious behaviors or individuals near our buses or stops. We strongly encourage our students and parents to say something right away to an AISD staff member or police officer if they see anything suspicious or unsafe. We will do whatever it takes to protect our students and will continue to collaborate with the APD to ensure the safety of our children and community."

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available from the APD.
