TEXAS, USA — AEP Texas is asking consumers to consider the appeal from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to practice conservation measures from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July11.

Customers throughout the AEP Texas service territory are being encouraged to practice conservation measures as requested by ERCOT.

The company said these simple actions can help reduce electric use during the peak hours from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. throughout the weekend:

  • Set your thermostat two-to three degrees above normal – every degree of cooling increases your energy use by six to eight percent.
  • Avoid using large appliances such as ovens, washing machines and dryers from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Keep blinds closed to keep cool air in your home.
  • More information can be found at aeptexas.com/savings/home/energy/Heating-Cooling.

ERCOT has also issued a watch for a projected reserve capacity shortage from 2-8 p.m. At this time, ERCOT said no system-wide outages are expected.
