For the third straight year, Angelo State University's Cheer Team has won national titles from the United Spirit Association USA Collegiate Championships in Anaheim, Calif.
ASU’s 25-member co-ed cheer team won two national championships and one national runner-up finish in the Game Day events including:
First place – Band chant contest
First place – Situational sideline contest
Second place – Fight song contest
Alejandro Chavez of Colorado City also competed as ASU’s mascot, Bella, and placed third in the mascot contest.
The championships were held Feb. 15-16, featuring teams from dozens of colleges and universities throughout the United States, competing in a variety of divisions and categories including game day, show cheer, jazz, hip-hop, pom-pom and mascot.
The ASU Cheer Team previously won 2018 and 2019 national championships in the Show Cheer division.
