Angelo State chorale, chamber singers hosting first fall 2022 concert

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Angelo State University Chorale and Chamber Singers will present their first concert of the fall season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at First United Methodist Church, 37 E. Beauregard Ave.

"There Was a Time" is free and open to the public. The choirs will be accompanied on piano by Hunter Mabery, ASU staff accompanist.

The ASU Chamber Singers will open the concert with:

  • "Lamentaciones de Jeremias" by Z. Randall Stroope
  • "Dirait-on" from "Les Chanson de Roses" by Morten Lauridsen
  • "Apamuy Shungo" arranged by Gerardo Guevara
  • "Ayudame!" by Carlos Alberto Cordero

The Chamber Singers and University Chorale with then join to perform:

  • "Antiphon" from "Five Mystical Songs" by Ralph Vaughan Williams
  • "Verleih uns Frieden" by Felix Mendelssohn
  • "Ngothando" arranged by Dr. Eric Posada, poem by Rachel Bickers of Wylie
  • "Deep River" arranged by Victor Johnson
  • "There Was a Time" by Elaine Hageberg
  • "Big House" by Kyle Pederson

Several other members of the ASU music program will accompany the choirs on select pieces including:

  • Dr. Timothy Bonenfant, professor of music, on saxophone
  • Dr. Trent Shuey, assistant director of bands, on percussion
  • Edward Pineda of San Angelo on percussion

The 31-member University Chorale includes the 10-member Chamber Singers and comprises students from academic departments across campus and is directed by Dr. Eric Posada, ASU director of choral activities.
