SAN ANGELO, Texas — For West Texans, 2023 has been an eventful year from start to finish. That includes the political sphere, as Rep. August Pfluger, says this year has been a success for his district, TX-11.

"It has been a big year. While we have had our fair share of drama at the federal level, it is a successful year for us. We have had a lot of pieces of legislation through. (When you look at why I am up there) I am up there to fight for West Texas, to fight for energy dominance, border security, agriculture, and the military, and while the job is not done we have made progress in each one of those categories," Pfluger said.

The congressman spoke about:

  • Returning $3.6 million to constituents
  • Solving 2,300 constituent cases
  • Opening new district offices in Killeen, Odessa and San Angelo
  • Hosting the inaugural Pfluger Student Leadership Conference

Like all of us, Pfluger will be putting a bow on 2023 shortly. However, he says there were lessons learned that made his priorities for next year even more evident.

"Border security will be our priority, (I also) want to make sure I educate my colleagues by letting them know we can help the environment by bringing emissions down and producing (oil) here," Pfluger said.

While border security and energy were two things he had his eye on, he also spoke about the upcoming farm bill first passed in 2018, now set to expire at the end of the month.

"We need a farm bill, we have extended it as it was written by Mike Conaway, but we need a good farm bill and we are going to do that in early 2024," Pfluger said.
