Big Spring PD looking for driver involved in fatal hit-and-run

Police say Daniel Scott, 31, was walking home when a pickup truck hit him and left the scene. The BSPD needs the public's help finding the driver and/or the truck.

BIG SPRING, Texas — The Big Spring Police Department is asking for the public's help finding the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run early June 8.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of North Owens Street at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to a vehicle/pedestrian collision.

When they got to the scene, officers found 31-year-old Daniel Scott dead.

A friend of Scott’s was at the scene and told officers he and Scott were walking home southbound on North Owens when a dark-colored pickup truck traveling northbound hit Scott with the front of the vehicle. The driver slowed down for a brief time, then sped away from the area.

The driver who hit Scott failed to stop and render aid by leaving the scene of the crash.

The Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and through preliminary investigation said the truck is a 2015-2020 dark-colored Chevrolet 1500 extended cab. The truck will have some sort of front end and undercarriage damage.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said no further information is available at this time.
