Cancer patients receive blessing bags

According to the benefit's founder, this year's effort was a complete success.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Organized by a local San Angelo family who spent the holidays in the hospital when their daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, the benefit collects donations of items that cancer patients can use and enjoy during their stay.

Items include books and games, snacks, clothes and hygiene products. All 50 bags were delivered to patients on the oncology wing at San Antonio’s Methodist Hospital Saturday, Dec. 14.

"We were actually invited to give some of the gift to the patients," Founder Veronica Madrigal said. "They were just very appreciative of the care packages."

Madrigal also thanked her family and everyone else who helped achieve the 50 bag goal and had a message for the people of San Angelo.

Find something that’s close and dear to your heart and get involved," she said. "I’d love for you to get involved with the Blessing Bags. Give me a call and I’d love to talk to you and see how you can help us next year.”

Next year’s benefit begins in November and Madrigal can be reached at 325-227-1776.
