SAN ANGELO, Texas — Anyone planning to compete at the International Championship Chili Cook-off in Terlingua, has another opportunity to earn needed points, right here in San Angelo.
The San Angelo Elks Lodge #1880 is partnering with the local Chili Pod for its annual Elks Chili Cook-off Saturday, June 18. All proceeds will help fund the summer camp for special needs children in Ottine, sponsored by the Texas State Elks Association.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 2121 S. Chadbourne St. Cost is $18 for chili and $5 for beans. Beans will be judged at noon and may be cooked off-site. Chili must be cooked on-site and must be made from chili grind meat. Chili will be judged at 2 p.m.
The lodge will be holding a raffle with the awards ceremony immediately following. Elks members are requesting cakes, pies and new items be donated for the auction.
Hamburgers will be available for $5 each, starting at 11 a.m. for the chili teams and lodge members.
