DALLAS — A child is in the hospital after being shot by an unknown suspect Friday night, police said.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to the 3500 block of Wilhurt Avenue around 8:20 p.m. to the report of a shooting.
Police said officers determined the child was shot by an "unknown suspect."
Sources told WFAA the shooting may have stemmed from a possible road rage incident in which people in two cars were shooting at each other. The family told WFAA they believe the child's injury was caused by mistaken identity because the child's mother was driving a friend's vehicle at the time of the shooting.
According to police, Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded to the scene and took the child to a local hospital where they are in critical condition.
No other details surrounding any suspects were immediately released. No arrests have been made.
Sources told WFAA that DPD's Gang Unit is investigating.
This is a developing story. WFAA will update this article with the latest.
