College Hills paving impacts local businesses

According to COSA, the project will be complete by the end of 2024.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — While workers are steadily progressing down College Hills Boulevard, repaving the roads, businesses have taken a hit. Those businesses include the Silo, a hair salon located right off the busy thoroughfare.

"A lot of people have been late to their appointments due to the road construction. It’s affected my clients, I feel like, the most," Blayke Luna said.

Luna is the Silo’s newest hair stylist, meaning her clients are new, as well.

"They don’t really come down this road often, unless they’re coming to the salon," she said.

She also says, while the heavier construction has moved down toward the loop, the Silo has had to take steps to ensure its customers can navigate the area.

"For a little bit, there were some that were completely closed off and they had to go a whole different route, and we’d have to put out a map on, like, where they had to go and stuff. So, it’s been crazy sometimes."

Another piece of the project is taking place down the road, near College Hills Plaza South, home to Jack and Jill Donuts.

"We’ve had a lot of complaints from customers. They say it’s difficult to enter," Vivek Khen, an employee, said.

"They complain about the process of construction, it takes too long," he continued. He also said he’s just not sure what to tell them, but he’s holding out hope.

The city maintains that the project will be complete by the end of December and Khen said he and his customers are getting happier with each passing day.

" I think it's almost done. The customers are happy when they see the road’s almost complete," he said.

"We are looking forward to it," Luna agreed. "No more late appointments, no more having to go around different roads to get here. Not all of this when you first enter the salon, all the construction and cones and everything."
