SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Uvalde community continues to grieve nearly two months after a deadly attack killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School.
Now, the San Angelo YMCA has found a way to give back to Uvalde by hosting a benefit boot camp event from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, in the Y's big gym.
Staff will be leading an exercise and both members and non-members are welcome to join free of charge and encouraged to wear maroon and white to represent the school's spirit colors.
"Time has passed and they're still grieving," YMCA Chief Executive Director Angel Flores said about the Uvalde community.
Donations of $5 are suggested and the money raised will be sent to the community in need.
Flores said the inspiration for the idea came from the group fitness department, which is always looking for new ideas for special events.
"This is a way for us to let them know San Angelo hasn't forgotten and to give back to them," Flores said.
She wants the Uvalde community to know they haven't been forgotten and she hopes to see a reasonable turnout at Friday's event.
