SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Concho Valley Community Action Agency announced the promotion of Mike Burnett as its new executive director Tuesday.
A CVCAA press release said after 12 years of service, Dr. Mark Bethune made the decision to leave CVCAA to move closer to family. After receiving word of Bethune’s pending departure, the CVCAA board immediately formed a subcommittee, led by Amanda Cruz, to find the next executive director.
Judge Brandon Corbin, CVCAA board chairman, said, “It was determined that the best candidate was already serving the CVCAA. We are excited to announce the promotion of Mike Burnett to the position of Executive Director, about the skills and experience Mike brings to the position, and about his guidance leading the organization into the future.”
With an extensive background in higher education, Burnett has been with CVCAA since Fall 2020. He started as a housing program associate, putting his skills and knowledge to work and made his way up to a leadership role.
The board interviewed numerous candidates before narrowing it down to two finalists and officially offering Burnett the position July 27, 2022.
The board ultimately decided it was his innovative ideas and existing investment in the organization that set him apart, the release said.
“When I began my journey at CVCAA, I didn’t really know the impact an organization could have on those at most risk in a community…or what it would have on me. In my time here, I’ve seen how assistance can help people out of a hard place and move towards a better one. The team here is doing some great stuff, working with more households this year than the last few years. I’m glad I’ve been a part of that,” Burnett said in the release.
