CHRISTOVAL, Texas — Texas is known for its western traditions and goat roping is just one aspect that makes the state stand out.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 16, Christoval FFA will be hosting their second annual "G.O.A.T. Ropin' event" at Cooper's Bar-B-Q for just $20 per team.
"It's crazy, the goat roping how popular they've become," FFA member Reid Stultz said. "People come from all around."
Essentially, goat roping is a timed competition and the top 10 winning teams will receive money as their prize.
"You're on foot, you get a healer...and so you rope as a team," Stultz said.
The event is being put together by the booster club to raise funding for the FFA and from there, the money will likely support children who are in state and national conventions.
The day will begin with a children's competition for a $10 fee and there will also be a gun raffle, silent auctions, t-shirts and more, according to Stultz.
One of the silent auctions will include a signed cap and a whiskey bottle from the old film Yellowstone.
Additionally, spectators can pay $5 to come and watch the goat roping event and a $20 cooler fee.
"Goats are pretty wild," Stultz said. He added it might "get a little western."
He said goat roping is popular because it doesn't involve horses. This makes travel a lot easier for those who are willing to compete.
After the success of last year's event, Stultz hopes the 2022 fundraiser will be even better and he wants to continue it for as long as possible.
