SAN ANGELO, Texas — In what felt like years of construction on Bell Street, the City of San Angelo announced it has been completed and is open to drive on.
The contract to complete Bell Street was established about four years. Some factors that contributed to the seemingly slow completion process include the lack of manpower and supply chain issues.
“One of the approaches we’re taking now is being proactive rather than reactive. Some of the roadways we have done in the past like College Hills and MLK, drivers will see some activity on those streets again in order to preserve what we’ve already worked on,” COSA Operations Director Patrick Frerich said.
Southwest Boulevard is among the next to be completed within the next few months. For College Hills Boulevard, Value Engineering is currently in place to jumpstart that project as early as May.
“The next big project we’re planning to tackle is Rio Concho Drive all the way to Bell Street will be starting in mid-April. We’ll be using a new process that we haven’t used in the past, but we’re hoping it’s a new process we can use in the future. It’ll save us a lot of time and money,” Frerich said.
However, COSA doesn’t own every street in San Angelo. Streets like Knickerbocker Road, Bryant Boulevard, Sherwood Way and Loop 306 are owned by the Texas Department of Transportation.
Frerich says the streets and operations department are always in communication with TxDOT if anyone is having issues or concerns.
